Crocus Hill Candles etc. is a home based business located in Okotoks, Alberta. We have many types of candles, including paraffin, gels and Natural wax - all of which are hand poured. We use only lead-free wicks and scents which are compatible with our waxes. This is very important, especially when it comes to gel candles! For best results burn your candle 1 hour for every inch of diameter, (e.g. 2 inch candle/2 hours). If the flame is too small, pour out some of the wax. If the flame is too large, trim the wick. Always trim your wick to 1/4 inch before lighting. Do this as well when you relight a candle. Try to keep your candle out of drafts as they will burn evenly. If this is not possible, turn your candle 90 degrees every half hour to get an even burn. Gel Candles We use medium-density gel wax for our candles. The paraffin embeds are hand made as well as the wicks. The wicks are made with long-neck wick tabs to ensure that they do not burn to the very bottom of the candle. Containers candles that burn to the bottom can become very hot, causing the container to crack. Burn gel candles for a maximum of 3-4 hours, put out, then allow gel to cool and relight. Gel candles can last for a very long time. They can be brought back for a refill. ($4.00 per cup of wax). Natural Wax Our natural wax candles are mostly made in containers of very large pillars and use only cotton wicks. They have a creamy texture and are somewhat mottled appearance. Depending on the temperature of the wax when it is poured, the candle will turn out differently every time. These are definitely one of a kind candles. They also have a great scent throw and are great for aromatherapy. Paraffin Candles We offer several types of paraffin candles. Votives are always popular and can be used in many ways. If you wish to purchase them for wedding favours, they can be custom made with your wedding colors and a scent if you wish. Hurricane candles are made with a soft inner core and a much harder, outer shell. When they have burned down sufficiently, you can replace the center with a votive. This way our hand painted candles can last forever. The candles have been sprayed with a candle shine so they can be wiped with a damp cloth.
